Obv: SWAN ALLY AT YE FOOT OF GAR: = IAMES / BEECH / IN
Rev: LICK HILL IN THAMS STREET = HIS / HALFE / PENNY / 1666
BW 3082, Norweb 6657.
Very Fine, with some light verdigris. Very Rare. In much better condition than the Norweb specimen.
Black Swan Alley was opposite Garlick Hill on the south side of Thames Street. The area was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666 and it is quite likely that it was the same James Beech who moved to Bow Street in Westminster, from which he issued a halfpenny token in 1667 (BW 389).
