London (2409), Rosemary Lane, Henry Loft

17th century token

Stepney (Metropolitan Middlesex)

Rosemary Lane

Henry Loft [at the sign of the Fishmongers' Arms]

Obv:  HENRY LOFT IN          =        Fishmongers' Arms

Rev:  ROSEMARY LANE        =        L H M

BW. 2409, Norweb -.

Nearly Very Fine, rev. sl. off centre.  Very rare.

Henry Loft is recorded as having five hearths in Whitechapel Hamlet in the 1666 Hearth Tax Return.  It is therefore clear that he lived in the part of Rosemary Lane lying in Stepney, and should thus be allocated to Metropolitan Middlesex rather than the City of London.

Ex Wetton collection.
