Obv:  THOMAS WADLAND IN 1668          =         Three-masted ship

Rev:  RATCLIFE HIS HALFE PENY                =         Still

BW 2372, Norweb 8349.

Very Fine, struck from rusty dies.

Much better than the Norweb specimen, which had the edge hammered up.  The depiction of the three-masted square-rigged vessel is particularly attractive.

The issuer was a mariner, but the reverse device indicates that his trade was likely to have involved the production of strong drink.
