Will: Mosely [at the sign of St Hugh]
Obv: WILL: MOSELY IN MOSELIES = ST HVGH [around figure of St Hugh]
Rev: COVRT IN FILPOT LANE 1667 = HIS / HALFE / PENNY / WMR
BW 2231, Norweb 7369.
Nearly Very Fine/Good Fine with some light corrosion on rev.
Much finer than both the Norweb specimens and with rather more detail on the figure of St Hugh than the British Museum specimen (illustrated in the Galata Token Book), which bears out the assertion in the Norweb Sylloge that the figure may be seen to have a long bearded face with high forehead and hair around. Mosely was a shoemaker, and St Hugh was one of the patron saints of shoemakers.
