It is quite possible that "Perpoole Lane" was in fact the same as Gray's Inn Lane. The lane led to the Manor of Portpool, which is believed to have been the location for the later buildings of Gray's Inn. The name "Gray's Inn Lane" gradually took hold during the later 16th and 17th centuries. However, another Portpool Lane leading east from Gray's Inn Lane has been known since the 1640s, and is still there today.
