New King Street

Thomas Foote at the Leg

BW 2044, Norweb -.

Nearly very fine and extremely rare.

New King Street lay in Cock and Pye Fields, now covered by Seven Dials, south of St Giles.  Thomas Foote is recorded there in the 1666 Hearth Tax returns.  The fact that Mr Foote chose the Leg as his sign shows that token issuers were not devoid of a sense of humour.
