Richard Marten [at the sign of the fountain]
Obv: RICHARD MARTEN = Fountain
Rev: IN MORE FEILDES = M / R M
0.58g, 15.2mm dia.
BW 1963, Norweb -.
Fine to Good Fine, some verd. and damage to centre on both sides. Exceedingly rare - we are not aware of any other example.
Williamson and others say that the device is "Pope's bust with triple crown", but it looks more like a fountain. There was, however, a Pope's Head tavern in Moorfields.
