London (2412), Rosemary Lane, Daniel Pease, 1656
17th century token
Stepney (Metropolitan Middlesex) or City of London
Daniel Pease [at the sign of the candlestick maker]
Obv: DANIEL PEASE = Candlestick maker
Rev: IN ROSEMARY LANE = D P / 1656
BW. 2412, Norweb 7551.
Nearly Very Fine, rare.
Ex Taffs, Nott and Norweb collections (illustrated in the Norweb Sylloge)
There is no record of a Daniel Pease in the surviving Hearth Tax Returns, so it is unclear whether the issuer came from the (smaller) Rosemary Lane near St Bartholomew's Hospital, or the Rosemary Lane which lay mostly outside the City in Stepney. The latter seems more likely.
